About Us

A non-profit in Cape May County dedicated to elevating childhood

Deeply Rooted is an educational resource center providing a supportive, social, and enriching academic environment for children and families.

Our goal is to create a community that respects a child’s curiosity, imagination, and love for learning.

We yearn to elevate childhood and equip and encourage community families and establish a learning environment that fosters a child’s creativity through homeschooling or non-traditional schooling.

We believe in learning through hands-on activities alongside other children of many different ages and skill sets.

Our Story

Deeply Rooted Learning Center opened its doors on May 1, 2019 founded by Sarah Pron and Stephanie Wiscott with the intention of bringing the community together through the love of education and God’s creation.

We started a local nature club in September of 2019 to meet up and to get our children outside to learn through play in nature. Slowly we began to grow in number as we invited more friends and acquaintances. Every week was different; we would meet at state parks, local walking trails, the beach, playgrounds, and the Nature Center of Cape May. Once we started posting our weekly location on social media we would have anywhere from 15-20 families attending each week. We were able to meet and build friendships and realized that many in attendance were either Coast Guard moms looking to find like-minded people or local homeschooling families.

We started noticing a need for community, a place to gather and to learn and grow together.

Our hope was that Deeply Rooted would be a gathering place for our community, a space that enhances learning and provokes wonder. Since our founding we have moved from a one-room learning center with a library to a multi-room space with dedicated art, library, and learning spaces as well as a stage and kitchen. Our organization has grown exponentially as well, highlighting that there is a bigger need than ever for free and low cost history classes, field trip opportunities, and learning experiences, especially for the homeschool and transient families in our community.

Our Goals

  • Create a community that respects a child’s curiosity, imagination and love for learning through play, exploration, and instruction.

  • Provide classes for those in the homeschool and transient community who would not otherwise be able to afford art, history, and cultural classes for their children. This also includes resources for children coming from families of low socioeconomic status, and for homeschooling families who also may have difficulties paying for extracurricular classes and activities.

  • Create a place for Coast Guard and other transient work families to get plugged into the community. We have found that many Coast Guard and migrant work families homeschool their children because of the constant moving.

  • Provide classes that provoke creativity and shed light onto the beauty, history, and ecology of Cape May County through play, education, and nature.

We know that homeschooling in general is growing and the community is underserved, so we have a goal of being a space where all families can come and feel embraced by our community, a place where they can get connected and meet other local families in South Jersey!

What We Offer

We provide free or low-cost classes that focus on history, culture, the arts, science, and nature.

We also host social events, educational demonstrations, and activities that are family-friendly.

Finally we offer clubs such as Nature Club, Ecology Club, Chess Club, and History Club with more opportunities added as we work within and assess the needs of our community
